When Should You Replace Your Air Conditioner?
Your system is aging.
Most air conditioners last around 12–15 years. If yours is hitting that range and repairs are becoming more frequent (and more expensive), it may be more cost-effective to replace it than to keep patching it up.
Your home isn’t staying cool.
If your AC struggles to cool your space or some rooms are consistently warmer than others, it’s a sign your system may be underperforming—or not sized correctly for your home.
Higher power bills.
As air conditioners age, their performance drops. A unit that once ran at 16 SEER could slip to 14 SEER or less after 10 years, forcing it to work harder and use more energy. That decline adds up on your monthly bills and signals it may be time for an upgrade.
You’re using outdated refrigerant.
If your system still runs on R-22—which has been phased out—or R-410A, which is now being phased down, repairs will become more difficult and costly over time. Upgrading your system gives you access to newer refrigerants like R-454B or R-32, which are more energy-efficient and environmentally responsible.
You’re remodeling or expanding.
Adding square footage or changing the layout can impact your airflow needs. It’s often better to size and install a new system that matches your home’s new footprint.
We’ll make sure you get a cooling system that keeps your home comfortable—and your energy bills under control.
